Dr. Ray Mooring uses statistics to help study and analyze data in the physical sciences (e.g. physics, meteorology, biology, chemistry, etc.) and social sciences (e.g. psychology, and sociology).  In addition, he has used statistics to study business, medicine, tax, and sports data (both professional and college).

Ray can help you by working as a planner, analyst, tutor, programmer, or editor on your project.  He can help you plan your project by helping you determine the sample size necessary to minimize your Type I and Type II error.  He also reviews your prospectus, work plan, or outline to ensure that your project is statistically solid.  As an analyst, Ray uses SAS, SPSS, MATLAB, Excel, and Access to calculate and interpret statistical procedures.  Because of his proficiency in all of these, he uses the software that will return results back to you as soon as possible and then converts it to any format that you need.

As tutor, Ray can help you understand and interpret the results of methods and techniques from entry level to applied statistics classes.  Some of these analytical techniques include calculating descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, ANOVA and regression analysis, time series analysis, spectral analysis, nonparametric data analysis, forecasting, prediction, and design of experiments.  Ray can make your life a lot easier by designing your own personal data collection instrument.  Don't input survey data into a spreadsheet.  Have Ray create a database, just for your data.  Fill out the form and populate an Excel spreadsheet automatically.

Finally, before turning in your project, let Ray take a look at it for you.  As editor, he will catch logic errors and assess your paper for its overall readability.  Because your document has fewer errors, you will be able to submit (and get accepted) your research paper, thesis, proposal, journal article, and dissertation earlier and with fewer rewrites.  No matter what you need help with; Ray will be able to help you get your project completed quicker and more accurately.

Ray received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science with a concentration in Statistical Climatology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned two additional graduate degrees from Georgia Tech (a Masters degree in Atmospheric Science and another in Statistics) and was awarded a bachelor's degree in Pure Mathematics from Morgan State University.  In addition to completing several SAS programming and statistics training classes from the SAS Institute, Ray has earned an Accounting Diploma from DeKalb Technical College.  Ray currently works as a statistician for the US Department of Treasury and teaches environmental science and statistics courses at Shorter College in Atlanta. He is a member of professional associations, including the American Statistical Association and American Meteorological Society.  He has a wealth of government and teaching experience which he looks forward to bringing to your project.
