Thesis & Dissertation Statistics Help

Statistics Tutors - Data Analysts

We’ll Match You with an Expert Statistics Consultant

GRADUATE STUDENTS AND UNIVERSITY FACULTY

Theses, Dissertations, Capstone Projects, Journal Articles

Our dissertation statistics consultants assist graduate students who are having difficulty defining their research problems and hypotheses, determining sample sizes, designing surveys, selecting research methods, writing methods chapters, and interpreting the resulting findings from collected data.

CLINICAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHERS

Statistical modeling, reporting, presentations, grant writing

Our statistics consultants help clinical and social science researchers develop research questions, design methods, analyze and interpret collected data, prepare tables and graphs, develop oral and written presentations, write and review research grant proposals, and address the comments of reviewers.

Our statistics consultants are experts in a wide range of topics. Our goal is to match you to a consultant who can help you with your data gathering, management, analysis, reporting, and presenting.

Our Statistical Consultants Help:

  • Define research problems, hypotheses, and sample sizes
  • Design surveys
  • Select research methods
  • Review and edit the methods chapters
  • Analyze and interpret collected data
  • Develop oral and written presentations
  • Write and review research grant proposals
  • Address the comments of reviewers and editors

Help with Statistics – What We Do

We can help you formulate your research questions. Sometimes we find that breaking a research problem down into more manageable parts will enable you to fully test the problem. This leads to clearer results that can be better explained and more easily replicated.

We can help you determine what statistics you will need to test your research questions. Once the hypotheses are clearly stated, we can help you determine how to test them. We can also suggest what statistical analyses to use for sample description, assessment of extraneous factors, and testing the assumptions underlying the comparative tests you want to use. We can help you determine how to move forward with hypothesis testing if the underlying assumptions have been violated.

We can help you determine what sample size you need. Before you conduct your study, you’ll need to know how many participants to include in your study to have dependable results. We can run power analyses to determine the minimum sample size required. We can also advise you on the types of statistics you’ll need to run in the event the population you want to study is limited. We can help you think about the issues with sample size that are specific to your target population, such as attrition, and the study’s inclusionary and exclusionary criteria.

We can help you determine what variables you need to include. We usually advise our clients to include variables that can be used to describe the sample, in addition to variables that will be used to test the research questions or hypotheses. You also want to think about what other factors may have a substantial effect on the outcome you are studying. If your data collection includes these extraneous factors, you will be able to control for them when you are testing your hypotheses.

We can help you with data collection methodology.  We can help you design an Excel spreadsheet and develop a codebook for data collection. If a web-based survey will be used to collect data, we can design and install the survey instrument for you. If the principal investigator will not be collecting the data, we can help you develop safeguards to insure quality control during data collection. We can advise you on what aspects of the project need to be documented, such as the time interval between pre- and post-testing. For retrospective studies, we can help you determine ways to verify the values you intend to extract.

We can help you with data management. Once you’ve collected your data, we can help you download it from the internet, and upload it into a statistics-based data file for analysis. We can help with assigning variable and value labels to make the results of statistical analysis easier to read. We can assess the amount of missing or erroneous data. In some cases we can estimate the missing values to maximize the amount of data available for analysis.

We can help you run your statistical analyses. We can help with the statistics to describe your sample, with the preliminary testing of statistical assumptions, data transformations, with testing the significance of extraneous factors, as well as with conducting the actual hypothesis testing. After we review the results together, we can suggest exploratory or post-hoc analyses to enrich your study results.

We can help you understand and write about your results. Once you have your results, we can help you understand what they mean, and what the tests do or do not tell you about your sample. Statistics can seem like a foreign language. We can help you become comfortable using that language as it applies to your results.
